A Resource if You're DIY-ing a Shopify Site

In coaching with makers, I’ve reviewed hundreds of Shopify sites in terms of their aesthetics and function. But until this year, I had never actually built one!

Recently, I started working on a new project that required creating a Shopify site. And as you probably know, it’s technically straightforward but can be daunting once you realize how many steps and decisions are actually involved. I knew I didn’t want to commit the funds to paying someone to create the website for me… but I also did not want to spend more of my time on it than I needed to.

To flatten that learning curve, I thought I would try out a course I had heard about over at Product Powerhouse – DIY Shopify Course. I met Erin Alexander of Product Powerhouse when she interviewed me a few months back on the Do's and Don'ts of Starting Wholesale.  I found Erin to be an authentic, generous and passionate person and her course is just the same. I want to be clear, here at Wholesale In A Box we do not use affiliate links and we never recommend anything that we have not personally used and loved. That said, I paid full retail price and while it was a bit pricey, it was not as much as paying someone to create a Shopify Site for me from scratch. I felt like it would save me a lot of time and effort going down blind alleys.

And… sure enough! I found that the course helped me zoom through the setup and refinement process without all the hemming and hawing that otherwise would have ensued. The DIY Shopify course is designed for beginners setting up their site for the first time. It covers everything you need to know to get started with your Shopify site. It includes modules on how to set up, design and optimize your site for search engines. So if you're looking to DIY your Shopify site, we recommend checking out the Product Powerhouse website. Their resources can help make the Shopify process a little less intimidating.

Other free resources that can be helpful but are less in-depth include Shopify’s Blog with articles like How to Start an Online Store in 2023 (A Step-by-Step Guide) that has generic startup information including videos and product setup. Additionally, the Forbes article How To Sell On Shopify In 7 Easy Steps (2023 Guide) is a thorough how-to guide with screenshots to walk you through the process. If you’re looking for some tips as you dive into your Shopify DIY, check out our recent interview with Erin Alexander of Product Powerhouse in The Best Tips on Using Shopify for Wholesale-- From a Shopify Pro. And we will keep you updated as we find other helpful resources for makers.

So if you’re launching a new Shopify site… godspeed! Hope one or more of the above will same you some minutes or some stress.
